River Fishing

Stowe has some great flyfishing opportunities close by. The Lamoille River(10 miles North of Stowe) and the Winooski River(10 miles South of Stowe) are both excellent trout waters to explore. They both flow in a general east to west direction toward Lake Champlain, with the Winooski being the "bigger water" river of the two. The Winooski generally runs colder during the summer also due to it's feeder streams coming from higher terrain and also the cold water dam release effect from the Waterbury Reservoir. Fishing is generally best in late May & June, and then again in September and October, however the Summer can also be excellent.

There are also several other smaller rivers and streams that one can fish in the Stowe area. The West Branch of the Little River runs from Mt. Mansfield through Stowe Village along the Mountain Road. This river has native Brook Trout in it's upper stretches and also the occasional brown trout throughout it's entire stretch. This river runs along the back of the Town & Country's property.
We recommend Catamount Fishing Adventures for guide services. Owner/Guide Willy Dietrich is extremely knowledgeable of local waters and an excellent teacher and guide.

Stillwater Fishing

There are many lakes located in Vermont. Many are close to an hour's drive from Stowe. These lakes and reservoirs offer both bass fishing and trout fishing. Canoe and Kayak rentals are available in the Stowe Area through Umiak Outfitters, AJs Ski and Sports or Pinnacle Ski and Sports and can be transported to nearby reservoirs and lakes.

Lake Champlain Charters

If your interested in a charter on the Big Lake, we recommend Captain Rich Greenough of Sure Strike Charters. He offers 4, 6 or 8 hour trips up to 4 people. Fish for Lake Trout, Landlocked Salmon, Walleye, Brown and Rainbow Trout. Rich has been fishing Lake Champlain for over 40 years and is sure to put you on some fish!!
